There are a lot of women working behind the scenes to run great bike share programs across the country – including General Managers, Operations Managers, Bike Mechanics, Field Technicians and more. We came together to write some tips that we find helpful for biking safely and feeling confident when riding. We hope you’ll find them useful too!


We celebrated two years of BIKETOWN in Portland last week with a couple hundred members at the new WeWork space downtown. The weather was beautiful on the terrace and the vibe was fun and energetic. Thanks to all of you that stopped by to toast two years!

Thanks to a new agreement between PSU and BIKETOWN, Portland’s bike share program, current Portland State students may now ride any available BIKETOWN bike up to 90-minutes per day at no cost by signing up for a student membership online.

Portland Bike Rental

Take in the views from some of Portland's most iconic bridges while enjoying the Willamette River and nearby attractions like OMSI, the Japanese American Historical Plaza and Salmon Springs Fountain. These two rides can be done individually or paired for a longer loop.

Super Hub Zones

BIKETOWN has worked with PBOT to establish and secure two Super Hub Zones following a successful pilot project over the summer of 2017. They will exist within the Portland State University (PSU) campus and the Central Eastside Industrial District (CEID). Within these Super Hubs, users can park at any public bike rack without paying the $2 out of station fee.

Where to find them, what the law says & how to use them. One of the keys to the success of BIKETOWN has been spontaneous trips. It's easy, affordable and convenient to jump on a bike and go! Trips like these, by their nature, don't typically include a helmet. After all, most people don't carry a helmet with them, even in Portland. That doesn't mean future trips have to be helmet-free.
